It is our town fiesta today in honor of the patron saint - Saint Michael The ARchangel or locally called Senior San Miguel. As a Seventh-day Adventist Church member and believer, we don’t celebrate this but we just respect those who do celebrate by greeting them “happy fiesta” or visit their home if we are invited for dinner. It sounds funny but really that’t the way it is. Observing those who are celebrating the fiesta, I feel that really they are having fun and they have prepared lots and lots of food for people who will gonna visit their home.
Since birth, this is my 3rd year plus the year i was pregnant with Dimple that am here in my hometown during the fiesta celebration. And the truth, since birth, I’ve never gone to the center of the city during days like this. When I was pregnant with Dimple 10 years ago, I planned to watch the street dancing performance but Dimple wanted to come out of my womb on the 26th, so on the day of the performance(27th), I was at the hospital. Days back, I had the chance or the time but i deprived myself because I just feel that that the political aspect of the city is not yet really at peace — so am anticipating of bombings that even Dimple, I didn’t allow her to go to the city for the fiesta programs.
I was in the city yesterday and also on the 26th and I felt that the place is not so joyous or full of festivity compared to the previous years. Seems all people are at home relaxing and enjoying the peace that their home could give. Maybe they also have the thinking like I do – Walking in the center of the city to buy some groceries, i prayed for God’s protection that somehow, no one will snatch my bag, or no one will stab someone, or no one will play with miniature bombs or much more with real bombs.
Anyway, Happy Fiesta Iligan City!
Viva Señor San Miguel!
Maayong Iligan!
