How Strong Is Your Bladder Control?

18 07 2007

All the while i thought that bed-wetting or primary nocturnal enuresis is only for little babies or toddlers.  But am wrong.  My daughter is almost ten and she did it again!  You may read the whole story here and what i found out about it on the net.

I asked my mom if i was a bed-wetter in during my pre-school and school phase and she said, “you are not.”  I remember one time, I was in the 3rd grade and i woke up late one night because i need to pee — but our bathroom was outside the kitchen door and it was so dark that i got scared.  I can’t wait for the sun to come up– so i just stood on the rug and let it flow. hehehehe.  I was wet but not my bed. =)  The next day, I told my mom about it then she started to let us use the portable urinal.

Now that am grown-up, I can stand up my urge to pee for as long as 3 hours as long as there is no pressure on my abs area.  But some told me that it is not good as it could damage my bladder in the long run.   I know it well that in cold weather our bladder seem to work abnormally and at times there is no place to release it and i thouht of wearing an adult diaper incase i will be stuck in the cold and no place to release it.  At times here in my workplace, when it is so busy that even to pee or poo or to eat is a waste of timebut — haven’t thought of wearing one yet. =)

So, my answer to that question is — As of now, at my age, “It is still strong!” =)

She Did It Again!

18 07 2007

I thought that as she is nearing her birthday, she would stop wetting the bed. But last night, she did it again. I don’t know what caused her as the weather was warm, the fan is off and the room’s temp was not too cold nor too hot but i woke up early in the morning feeling my back pillow “wet.” All i know is that she feels susu when the room temp is too low. She wets the bed coz she is lazy to get up — but not on the weather like last night.

She was not excited that day. She didn’t eat something that would upset her urethra. Was it stress? Because she will have her exams the next day? Anyway, I really don’t like her wet the bed because of too much sheets too wash.
I tried to search on the internet the causes of Bed Wetting or Primary Nocturnal Enuresis and this is what i found out:
Bed-Wetting (Primary Nocturnal Enuresis) – Cause

Almost all children who wet the bed do not do so intentionally. Most likely, several factors are involved when a child older than age 5 to 6 continues to wet the bed. Possible causes of primary nocturnal enuresis include:
  1. Delayed growth and development. Children with a less mature nervous system may not be as able to sense when the bladder is full.
  2. Small bladder capacity. Having a smaller-than-normal bladder may make some children more prone to wet the bed.
  3. Too little antidiuretic hormone (ADH). Levels of antidiuretic hormone (ADH), a brain chemical that signals the kidneys to release less water, normally rise at night. Some children who wet their beds may not produce more ADH at night.
  4. Sound sleeping. Many parents note that their child who wets the bed is a deep sleeper. These children usually wet the bed less frequently as their sleep patterns mature.
  5. Psychological and social factors. Bed-wetting does not appear to be a direct result of emotional problems. In fact, bed-wetting may be the cause of some emotional disturbances for children. However, children living in stressful home situations or in institutions may be more likely to wet the bed.
Some of these factors may be inherited. A child is at increased risk for wetting the bed if one or both parents has a history of bed-wetting as a child.

It mentions of the possibility that it is hereditary — hmmmm i don’t think I am a bed wetter nor her da or am not really sure as i didn’t grow up with her da. Well, i just hope she will outgrow BW before she goes to boarding school.
