Rules Versus Freedom

3 07 2007

Reading this thread at Virtualmvc my reaction was really a surprise because i feel it is a new thing.  I was an MVC  dormitorian for a total of 5 years and more but i have not experienced that my attendance was being checked in church.  If that happens, i would reason out that checking the attendance is a way of focing someone to do what he or she does not want to do.  Where is then the freedom here – the freedom of choice?

On the other hand, Adventist colleges in the country have same rules and regulations when it comes to activities (religious and secular).  Not abiding to the rules and regulations excessively  would sometime mean a student denied upon enrollment the next semester.  So, if one is a responsible student, he or she willingly abides with whatever rules and regulations of the school.  If one misses an activity he or she should be responsible enough to accept the consequencies. right?  That’s what most students do.  Even we hate waking up early in the morning for worship, we have to because we don’t like to “work” as punishment or “pay” in liu of work.

During our time, church attendance is NOT checked.  What was checked is the dormitory rooms.  Assistant Deans would list those who are left incase the building burns down at least theywill have idea who is inside the building.  (it sounds reasonbale naman)  If one will not attend church, you are listed and you pay for the consequence later. But that time i didn’t take it as a wrong rule because the dean told us that they should know if the student is at church or not incase something happens to you or anyone in the dormitory, the dean is responsible.  Seldom a student escapes from chruch service on saturdays because they have nowhere to go.  They can’t get out of the gate without a campus leave.  He or she may take the risk of walking up in the sugar cane fields and jump over the road fence along the college main road.

Anyway, on my part, i didn’t complain of any checking attendance on any activities during my time.  But for now, if am still a student, i would surely voiced out that is unfair in the sense that it is only for dormitorians.  If it is part of training up the youth, then ALL students must be checked.

Rules and Regulations – if it does not appeal to you, you have the FREEDOM to go to another school which might have rules that will makes freely abide.

FREEDOM – i guess it is one of the misused word in the dictionary.  In my opinion, it is a good word.  A sweet word — but must be used with a sense of maturity and responsiblity.

I to read Axinia’s thoughts about Freedom  and she writes about it so well.

Nap Delight

3 07 2007

Taking a nap at noonday is good for our system especially when you really had a busy morning.  I usually don’t go home because i spend time online when it’s time for lunch except when maunahan ako ng boss ko – isara nya pinto nya at matulog na sya at di ako nakapasok ng room. isa lang kasi computer namin na merong internet connection. just the one that is inside her office.  It’s been quite sometime i haven’t done napping but today i did.

Internet connection was down in the office  so i opt to go home for lunch. I had my baon with me, dinala ko na rin.  I planned to get online from home then if masyadong mabagal, i would take a nap. Mabagal nga and yea — did take a 2o minute nap.

Mom woke me up and i woke up with a quick start — fully awake!

I feel refreshed.

Internet connection in the office is back — that is why am here now.
